DIGITAL CURRENCY.

What are altcoins?

Altcoins are a subset of cryptocurrencies; they’re basically Bitcoin clones. They use the same technology, they function in the same way, but they have a different purpose or set of purposes. Some of them are trying to be used as currency, some of them are trying to be used as payment systems, some of them are trying to do things that Bitcoin can’t do. The purpose of this article is not to tell you which altcoin to get into, because that’s going to depend on your goals, it’s also not to tell you to avoid altcoins, because a lot of them are a lot cheaper than Bitcoin, and some of them are actually doing a lot of interesting things.

Altcoins are alternative digital currencies or digital coins that are based on preexisting currencies. Bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency, but there are now thousands of altcoins in existence, with more added every day. Most altcoins are significantly better or worse than bitcoin in some way, which means that they are a good or a bad investment. However, some altcoins serve very specific purposes that can be better or worse than bitcoin’s purpose.
